Paul Merson questioned whether the Everton players would react to Tim Cahill possibly returning to the club, as he told Sky Sports.

The Sky pundit shared ‘players are not like that anymore’ if Cahill re-joins Everton to galvanise them and get them fighting on the pitch again.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Cahill could return to Goodison Park in an Executive Role, with those at the club keen to bring in former stars that understand the club.

Going from appointing a Liverpool legend as a manager to now going down the route of bringing in former players.

It just goes to show that those at the top have no clue what they are doing on Merseyside because Rafa Benitez shouldn’t have been appointed in the first place.

Nonetheless, with talk of Cahill possibly returning, this is what Merson had to say about the Australian.

“You sort of read between the lines with the Ronaldo interview the other week,” said Merson. “Players are not like that anymore.

“You bring Tim Cahill in, who was a brilliant player and he did brilliant for Everton. The players will be like ‘what?’

“To come in and talk to the players (to motivate them) they will be like (Merson shrugs his shoulders).”

Another legendary figure that the Toffees could turn to is Wayne Rooney, who is currently trying to get Derby County out of their current mess.

There’s no doubt that the fans will be on side and there will be more trust from their part if Rooney is on the touchline and Cahill is in the boardroom.

One way or another, changes are needed, from top to bottom, because there are problems galore at the club.

Duncan Ferguson is currently in temporary charge and it will be interesting to see whether he lands the gig until the end of the season.
